If you look at the Google News alerts for Kamala Harris’ first national TV book tour interview from less than 24 hours ago, you’ll see the only thing of note to come out of it is that she sort of endorsed Democrat mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. Barely.
The interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, of all people, proved Kamala is still the same person she’s always been, which is to say vapid, visionless, and still faking an interest in governing. Nothing has changed, and neither has her party.
In the interview, Maddow asked the most obvious question: Did the former vice president support her party’s nominee for New York City mayor? Kamala literally threw her hands up as if this was a topic she was sure would get her in trouble and said, “Look, as far as I’m concerned, he’s the Democratic nominee and he should be supported.” Pressed on whether that was a formal endorsement, she threw her hands up again. “I support the Democrat in the race,” she said. “Sure.”
Mouth ulcers have received better reviews. Kamala went on to talk about other Democrats no one has heard of, in smaller races across the country not nearly as consequential as New York’s.
It was classic Kamala — defensive because she’s unsure of her own answer to the easiest questions and dotted with inappropriate bouts of laughter signaling to the host that she either doesn’t have much to say, or would rather move on to something she’s more comfortable with, please.
Of course, where Kamala felt most comfortable was in microwaving her hysterical and highly dangerous accusations that President Trump is a “tyrant” comparable to “communist dictators.” That was so effective last year that Democrats lost every swing state, the so-called “popular vote,” and saw their support erode among virtually every single demographic, other than black women and white women. (Or, as Kamala described it in the interview, “one of the most hotly contested elections for president.”)
The interview, as with all Kamala interviews, was boring, because there was nothing new. The same is true for the rest of the Democrat Party’s leadership. There has been no discernible change in its direction, either in policy or messaging. It remains a party consumed by spite, jealousy, and irrepressible rage. They say things like “fascist” and “tyrant” and “losing our democracy!” because they’ve got nothing else.
The two biggest developments in Democrat politics in recent days are the majority of the party’s House members rejecting a resolution condemning political violence and Rep. Ilhan Omar’s ongoing public tour denigrating Charlie Kirk’s memory, calling him “reprehensible” and “hateful” for things he provably did not say.
That’s the anti-American slum that the party continues to dwell in. Kamala’s book tour is more of that.
