NextImg:DOJ’s Rumored Trans Gun Ban Is Far From 'Common Sense'

The Department of Justice is entertaining a bad idea in the form of an alleged ban on gender-confused Americans buying guns, according to new reporting from The Daily Wire.

“Individuals within the DOJ are reviewing ways to ensure that mentally ill individuals suffering from gender dysphoria are unable to obtain firearms while they are unstable and unwell,” a DOJ source reportedly told DW senior reporter Mary Margaret Olohan.

A blanket “trans” gun ban is a dicey, not to mention unnecessary, move. Taking away firearms never has and never will remedy the evil that possesses someone to shoot up a school, church, or other public place. It certainly won’t course-correct the culture or medical establishments that routinely feed people’s gender delusions.

In fact, all it does is play into the hands of prayer scoffers who dominate the blue party. The anonymous DOJ source quoted in the article acknowledged that fact by reportedly claiming “Democrats have called for common sense gun laws for a long time.”

“This seems pretty common sense to me,” the source allegedly added.

Democrats would love nothing more than to bring more Republicans into their scheme to deprive law-abiding Americans of their Second Amendment rights. But a ban like the one the DOJ is supposedly discussing, as I’ve previously written, is wholly unnecessary under the gun laws we already have.

The 4473 transaction record, which is required for any gun purchase from a federally licensed firearms dealer, asks a potential buyer whether he has “ever been adjudicated as a mental defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution?” Anyone who has been “formally committed to a mental institution by court, board, commission or other lawful authority” involuntarily for “mental defectiveness or mental illness” or other reasons such as “drug use” is barred from buying a firearm.

There is a long history of both medical organizations classifying gender delusion as a mental disorder and cultures shunning the deviant behavior that often accompanies it. That all changed, however, in the last decade, especially when key institutions shifted away from addressing the open desire to masquerade as the opposite sex as a problem to not just accommodate it, but also promote it.

The White House’s open embrace of the Make America Healthy Again suggests it is focused on treating root causes, not just symptoms. That same dogma should apply to the rise in violence from gender-bending individuals.

The Trump administration has made missteps on the Second Amendment before, and it can’t afford to do it again. Banning guns for certain people, instead of focusing on enforcing the mental illness prohibitions already on the books, should not be within the “range of options” Attorney General Pam Bondi is willing to consider in the wake of the Annunciation shooting in August.

Instead, the Republican administration should put its time and effort into further preventing the indulgence of gender dysphoria by parents, government agencies, schools, and other organizations plagued by the leftist-led brainwashing that no doubt led to last week’s tragedy. The least Trump’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives could do is remove the pointless “non-binary” “sex” option on the 4473, which does nothing but pretend to legitimize radical gender ideology.
