As President Donald Trump on Monday called greater attention to the brutal fatal stabbing of a Ukrainian refugee at the hands of a “mentally deranged lunatic,” The Washington Post was pretending it never happened.

Surely editors of the D.C. bubble publication that considers itself the nation’s newspaper have seen the horrifying video of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska being attacked on a Charlotte, North Carolina light rail train. The shocking video footage was released on Friday.

‘There is No Information Available’

The suspect, Decarlos Brown Jr., a career criminal with more than a dozen arrests, faces homicide charges in the Aug. 22 murder. Commuter train video surveillance shows a man in an orange hoodie sitting directly behind Zarutska on a Charlotte Area Transit System train, standing up and violently attacking the unsuspecting young woman.

Zarutska escaped her war-torn native land only to be murdered by a violently mentally ill man whose own mother said should not have been free to roam the streets.

But WaPo — and other leftist corporate “news” outlets — has been missing in action. As of mid-Monday evening, the Post had made no mention at all of the murder, according to a review of its archives. Nothing. The Post’s public-relations flack didn’t respond to The Federalist’s email seeking comment.

The Trump-hating WaPo’s online front page on Monday showcased another run at the suspect naughty birthday card Democrats have accused citizen Donald Trump of sending to dead pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Trump has vehemently denied any connection to the card, but congressional Democrats brought back up the shady allegation on Monday, so the Post dutifully reported it.

So much for the news outlet that self-righteously likes to declare “Democracy Dies in Darkness.” Iryna Zarutska’s violent death was captured on widely distributed commuter train video, but WaPo couldn’t bring itself to note the incident.

That is until just before midnight on Tuesday, when the corporate media outlet finally published a story headlined, “Charlotte leaders criticized over killing of Ukrainian woman as Trump, MAGA target another Dem city.”

‘Bias of Omission’

Iryna Zarutska brutal’s murder has gotten short shrift in Politico, a leftist publication that, like the Post, has rallied around the blue and yellow flag of Ukraine in its long war with Russia. Neither Zarutska nor Brown showed up in a search of Politico’s website Monday evening. The outlet did eventually chime in with a contorted piece blaming conservatives for suggesting that the Democrats who have run America’s most violent crime-ridden cities for decades should be called out after another horrendous crime.

The New York Times, too, didn’t get around to reporting on the story until Monday evening, according to a search of the Times’ archives. Even then the piece from the left’s paper of record predictably opined that the unprovoked stabbing “became an accelerant for conservative arguments about the perceived failings of the Democratic policies.”

Other corporate media outlets, such as the Associated Press, the Wall Street Journal and CNN, were playing catch-up Monday, too, after giving the silent treatment to the story, according to media reports.

Steve Krakauer, NewsNation media contributor, said the news blackout was part of a “bias of omission” — stories that don’t get covered by “certain media outlets.”

“What we’re starting to see is the kind of coverage like Axios put out today,” he said, referring to the narrative-twisting piece by Marc Caputo headlined, “Stabbing video fuels MAGA’s crime message.”

“It is now being framed as a MAGA story. This is all part of the narrative that they are going to be pushing now, which is not covering the story itself but covering the reaction to the story. And I think that’s telling,” Krakauer, executive producer of The Megyn Kelly Show, told NewsNation’s Morning in America.

‘The Racial Aspect’

As noted on NewsNation, the coverage — or lack thereof — of the white woman’s murder on the Charlotte commuter train at the hands of a black man is vastly different than corporate media’s wall-to-wall coverage of the Daniel Penny case. Penny, a white Marine veteran was acquitted in a politically-driven prosecution in which he was charged with criminally negligent homicide in the death of Jordan Neely, a black homeless man, on a New York subway. Witnesses said Neely was being aggressive and threatening when Penny restrained him in a chokehold.

“I think we obviously would be remiss to not discuss the racial aspect of this, which is clear no matter what. But the fact that this [Brown] is a repeat offender, and I mean not … one thing in his past but numerous chances where this person could not be continually out on the street. And yet he was,” Krakauer said.

The story didn’t fit the narrative, the “framing,” preferred by the “oppression”-preaching accomplice media.

Brown had been arrested at least 14 times in North Carolina, for crimes including everything from larceny and felony robbery to assault and firearms possession as a felon, the New York Post reported. He stepped on the train a free man, out on cashless bail thanks to social justice Magistrate Teresa Stokes, who let Brown go on a written promise he’d show up for court. Brown, who reportedly was a diagnosed schizophrenic, previously had been awaiting trial on charges of “misuse of the 911 system” after police said he called officers while they were conducting a welfare check on Brown, according to an affidavit obtained by the Charlotte Observer. Brown wanted police “to investigate this ‘man-made’ material that was inside of his body,” according to the police report.

‘What the Hell Was He Doing Riding the Train?’

The disturbing incident marked the latest example of a failed criminal justice system led by progressive prosecutors more interested in their version of “social justice” for criminals than keeping the public safe. The breakdown in Brown’s case involved multiple players in North Carolina’s second-most populous county

In the wake of the high-profile Charlotte murder, Rep. Randy Fine, a Florida Republican, pledged to introduce legislation to hold judges accountable when violent repeat offenders they release commit new crimes.”

President Trump has moved to end cashless bail by choking off resources to jurisdictions that employ the get-out-of-jail free cards. On Monday, he said he had seen the video of “the beautiful, young Ukrainian refugee, who came to America to escape the vicious War in Ukraine, and was innocently riding the Metro in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was brutally ambushed by a mentally deranged lunatic.”

“The perpetrator was a well known career criminal, who had been previously arrested and released on CASHLESS BAIL in January, a total of 14 TIMES. What the hell was he doing riding the train, and walking the streets? Criminals like this need to be LOCKED UP,” Trump wrote on the White House’s X account.
