Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday revealed a letter he says is “totally exculpatory” evidence proving his innocence in the Stormy Daniels hush money case.
“In a private transaction in 2016, before the U.S. presidential election, Mr. Cohen used his own personal funds to facilitate a payment of $130,000 to Ms. Stephanie Clifford,” reads the letter, posted by Trump on Truth Social on Wednesday, referring to adult entertainment actress Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.
“Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed Mr. Cohen for the payment directly or indirectly.”
Joseph Tacopina, Trump’s lawyer on the case, confirmed with The Epoch Times the letter’s authenticity.
The finding severs a key link in Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s case against Trump, which likely revolves around $130,000 paid to Daniels to silence her alleging she had an affair with Trump, which he has denied.
The case has been dominating national headlines in the past days with its potential to become the historic first where a former president is indicted.
Bragg is alleging that Michael Cohen, Trump’s former attorney, paid Daniels the hush money at Trump’s direction. Trump allegedly documented the payment as legal expenses to Cohen from the Trump Organization, committing a crime by falsifying business records.
Trump has denied all wrongdoing in the case and denied any connections with Stormy Daniels, saying that he’s a victim of extortion.
It is widely speculated that Bragg will bring his case based on the combination of a state charge, falsifying business records; and a federal charge, campaign finance violations.
But if the statements in the letter published on Wednesday are admissible, the falsifying records component—a fundamental part of Bragg’s case—would be would undercut.

“Wow, look what was just found—A Letter from Cohen’s Lawyer to the Federal Election Commission. This is totally exculpatory, and must end the Manhattan District Attorney’s Witch Hunt, immediately. Cohen admits that he did it himself. The D.A. should get on with prosecuting violent criminals, so people can walk down the sidewalks of New York without being murdered!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday.
