A military service member was discovered dead in the Pentagon parking lot on Tuesday, according to the Department of Defense (DOD).

DOD press secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement Pentagon officials were alerted on Tuesday afternoon.

“At approximately 3:30 p.m. EDT today the Pentagon Operations Center received a call requesting a welfare check on a military service member,” Ryder said.

According to Ryder, upon arriving at the North Parking area, Pentagon police officers found the individual in their vehicle.

The service member’s death was later verified by Arlington County Emergency Medical Services, Fox News reported.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted, according to Ryder.

The Epoch Times contacted the DOD and Arlington County Emergency Medical Services for further comment and confirmation.
