Late last month, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Department of Energy had concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic most likely arose from a laboratory leak. The Journal’s reporting was according to a classified intelligence report recently provided to the White House and key members of Congress. But just a day later the White House said there was still no consensus within the Biden administration over the origins of COVID-19—despite the finding by the Department of Energy. However, the day after the White House’s obvious attempts to muddy the waters, FBI Director Christopher Wray publicly stated that the FBI had assessed that the pandemic was, indeed, likely the result of a laboratory leak in China, providing the first public confirmation of the bureau’s classified judgment of how the virus first emerged.
