SAN FRANCISCO—A residence on 1700 Block of 22nd Avenue in San Francisco’s Sunset District suffered a three-alarm fire on the morning of Feb. 9, according to the fire department.
The fire seriously injured one civilian and injured one firefighter. It also damaged three homes.
Resident Ehsan Farshchi told The Epoch Times he was just walking out of his room around 9:20 a.m. when he heard an explosion.
“It was like a bomb explosion,” Farshchi said.
The explosion wave was strong enough to shatter glass across the street and knock down power lines.
Fearing the spreading fire, Farshchi went back in and told his roommates to leave.
“I saw one pedestrian was hurt, her clothing was torn, [and] her hair was burned,” Farshchi said.
The fire was contained around 11:40 a.m., according to the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD).
The SFFD issued evacuation orders to residents living at 1730–1750 22nd Avenue, and all others on the block were to shelter in place. The cause is under investigation, according to a Twitter post by the SFFD.
