A groundbreaking trial is unfolding in Washington, DC.

Zachary Alam, a key figure from the January 6th incident, prepares to face the court on September 5th. However, this trial is not just about Alam; it also promises to shed light on the tragic death of Ashli Babbit at the hands of Capitol Police Officer Michael Byrd.

Alam, who witnessed Babbit’s shooting first-hand, resolved to go to trial to reveal the truth behind the brutal incident that occurred that day.

His defense team is adopting an aggressive approach, aiming to compel Officer Byrd to testify and answer for his actions on that fateful day. Alam’s decision to reject a plea deal and stand trial is seen as a courageous act of truth-seeking and justice for Ashli Babbit.

For the first time since his detention over 950 days ago, Alam made a public statement.

In his statement, Alam recounts the events of January 6th, detailing his encounter with Ashli Babbit, the woman he credits with saving his life. He describes her as the epitome of an American patriot and expresses his gratitude for her bravery.

Alam’s journey has been far from ordinary. After dropping out of medical school at 23, he found himself entangled in the criminal justice system.

During his time in jail, he discovered Christianity and turned his life around. Upon his release in 2018, he moved to Washington DC and began working in the tourism industry.

However, the advent of COVID-19 brought his newfound stability to a halt. As lockdowns were imposed and businesses shuttered, Alam lost his job and watched as society crumbled around him.

This experience, coupled with his skepticism towards the government’s handling of the pandemic, led him to attend the Trump rally on January 6th.

In his statement, Alam criticizes the government’s portrayal of the January 6th protesters as “terrorists” and “insurrectionists.”

He points out the irony of Officer Byrd being identified as a victim in his case, despite being the one who fired the only gunshot that day. Alam is determined to confront these inconsistencies during his trial, which begins on September 5th.

As Alam prepares for his day in court, the J6 Legal Fund is seeking donations to cover his trial costs. Attorney Steven Metcalf, known for successfully defending a seditious conspiracy charge in the Proud Boys case, will be representing Alam.
