The world’s largest cruise ship already has record sales, but it hasn’t yet left port. Construction was recently completed on the massive ship at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.
Now, the ship is in the testing phase and soon, it will be ready for passengers to climb aboard in early 2024…
The Icon of the Seas already made its mark in history, going down as the largest cruise ship ever built and taking away the top spot from the world’s former largest cruise ship, the Wonder of the Seas.
Icon of the Seas is 365 meters long and more than 250,000 tons in weight. It will sail for Royal Caribbean. The ship has the capacity to hold more than 5,600 passengers, in addition to 2,350 crew members.
Royal Caribbean CEO Michael Bayley said the ship is expected to join the company’s fleet at the end of October. The ship will set sail in Caribbean waters for its debut maiden voyage in January of 2024.
Icon of the Seas will have the world’s largest water park on any cruise ship in existence. With six mega water slides, seven large swimming, and nine hot tubs, there’s enough space for everyone.
There will also be all varieties of food available and eight different “neighborhoods” on the 20-deck vessel. Advance sales for the ship’s debut have already broken records at Royal Caribbean.
Icon of the Seas’ seven-night packages include tours of the company’s award-winning private island in Coco Cay and the new expansion area at Hideaway Beach. According to Bayley, this ship will provide the best family vacation on the high seas.
This ship is the capstone of the evolution in cruise lines of Royal Caribean International’s 50-year history.
The Icon is also the company’s first ship powered by liquefied natural gas and fuel cell technology. Royal Caribean International has invested heavily to get its fleets to use clean energy.
