In a recent turn of events, actor Woody Harrelson found himself at the center of a social media storm.
The controversy was sparked by a photograph of Harrelson wearing a hat in support of Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which was posted on Instagram by actress Cheryl Hines, Kennedy’s wife.
The image featured Hines standing next to Harrelson donning a blue “Kennedy 2024” cap and was captioned, “Great seeing you, Woody. #friends #hats #rfkjr.”
Harrelson, known for his outspoken views, has previously made headlines with his critique of the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the vaccine rollout.
His public endorsement of Kennedy, who has been vocal about his skepticism of pandemic protocols and childhood vaccines, seems to align with his own beliefs.
The actor’s stance was most notably expressed during his monologue on “Saturday Night Live” in February. Harrelson cleverly masked his critique as a movie pitch he had heard in 2019.
He described a scenario where the world’s biggest drug cartels buy up all the media and politicians, forcing people to stay locked in their homes unless they take the cartel’s drugs repeatedly.
The actor, a self-proclaimed marijuana user, ended the bit with a punch line, saying, “I threw the script away. I mean, who was going to believe that crazy idea? Being forced to do drugs? I do that voluntarily all day.”
This photo and Harrelson’s public endorsement of Kennedy have not gone down well with liberals on social media, who have expressed their anger and disappointment.
The image was met with a barrage of negative comments from liberal users, some of whom declared Harrelson “dead to me” and accused him of being an “anti-science quack.”
Andrew Kimmel, senior producer of “Shark Tank,” shared the image with the comment, “We lost Woody.” Similarly, leftist influencer “Liberal Lisa in Oklahoma” expressed her disappointment, stating, “It’s official. After his s—– SNL opening monologue about Covid, now this.
Woody Harrelson is dead to me.” Prominent leftist social media user Angela Belcamino went as far as to say, “Woody Harrelson just canceled himself.”
Devin Duke, a Democrat social media strategist, criticized Harrelson, writing, “It’s a shame Woody Harrelson has revealed himself to be an anti-science quack.” Former Bill Clinton staffer Claude Taylor added, “So disappointing. Good reminder actors are not role models.”
The popular progressive account “Wu Tang is for the Children” posted, “If you didn’t realize Woody was gone after his SNL monologue well now it’s official.”
