Memorial Day weekend is a time when many Americans have barbeque events, fellowship with loved ones, and otherwise celebrate the sacrifices of those who paid the ultimate price to maintain our country’s freedoms.

Many religious people also celebrate Memorial Day weekend by attending church or engaging in other festivities.

This is exactly what happened during last month’s Memorial Day weekend. However, the Tampa Free Press reports that things took a turn for the worse, upon the US Capitol Police allegedly stopping a religious celebration of US soldiers who gave their lives.

South Carolina’s Rushingbrook Children’s Choir was taking a tour of Capitol Hill towards the end of last month. Part of this tour involved the children’s choir going to Statuary Hall to sing patriotic songs, such as the National Anthem.

However, while singing, the Rushingbrook Children’s Choir was reportedly interrupted by members of the US Capitol Police. It’s at this point that law enforcement allegedly informed the children’s choir they wouldn’t be permitted to keep on singing.

The reason provided for this was the claim that singing the National Anthem could technically be deemed as a type of protest.

After the fact, Capitol Police stated a “miscommunication” took place and they weren’t aware the Speaker’s Office previously gave the OK for Rushingbrook Children’s Choir to sing.

On social media, countless Americans have rightfully condemned what happened as a serious issue that needs to be addressed. Some people have even criticized the fact that the children’s choir would need any sort of permit to sing the National Anthem, to begin with.

Finally, the idea that all of this happened due to a mere “miscommunication” also hasn’t gone over well with the public. The Rushingbrook Children’s Choir has since acquired legal representation, due to what transpired.
