Unusual wildfires in Canada led air quality in United States cities to once again be among the worst in the world. This development led residents of these cities to experience the terrible quality of air, making it hard to breathe easily.
On Tuesday, the World Air Quality Index determined the air quality in Chicago reached levels that were unhealthy, overtaking Beijing as the city with the worst air quality in the world.
The smoke made its way into Chicago shortly after sunrise on Tuesday. It is still in the Windy City, making the air toxic and dangerous to breathe.
Owing to the smoke, the air quality in Detroit, Michigan reached levels that are considered to be hazardous. This is not the only city in the Midwest affected by the smoke.
As reported by AP, concerns about the quality of the air are being raised in areas of the central and eastern United States, as well as throughout the Great Lakes region. This comes as a result of smoke being carried by the wind from current wildfires occurring across Canada.
According to the AirNow.gov website operated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), certain regions in Illinois, southern Wisconsin, and lower Michigan had the worst quality of air in the United States.
The EPA also classified the air quality in Detroit, Chicago, and Milwaukee as “very unhealthy.”
It is anticipated that the smoke from the wildfires in Canada will move into New York City early on Wednesday morning.
It was claimed earlier in the month that the foggy haze which originated in Canada made New York City appear as if it was a scene from an apocalyptic movie.
Right now, all of this smoke carries a very real potential for health issues among each of the impacted residents.
