In a shocking revelation, former President Trump has accused the committee investigating the January 6th Capitol protest of illicitly destroying their documents and records. This bombshell report was dropped on his Truth Social platform, sending shockwaves through the political landscape.

Trump’s statement read, “The Unselect January 6th Committee of Political Hacks and Thugs has illegally destroyed their Records and Documents.”

He further demanded the “Fake Political Indictment” against him be immediately withdrawn, citing the system as “Rigged & Corrupt,” drawing parallels to the contentious presidential election of 2020.

This comes after Dr. Jan Halper-Hayes, in a recent interview, suggested that special counsel Jack Smith made a significant error in indicting Trump related to the Jan. 6 incident.

She argued this indictment inadvertently granted Trump the power to subpoena people, a move that could potentially backfire on the committee.

In a letter addressed to Chairman Thompson, it was emphasized that all records collected and transcripts of testimony taken during the investigation must be preserved in accordance with House Rule VII.

The letter stressed that these records do not belong to any individual member but to the American people, who are entitled to all the information gathered, not just the data that aligns with a particular political agenda.

Trump was charged with four counts in Jack Smith’s January 6 case: Conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.

These charges have been criticized as a rehash of the J6 committee’s allegations, free speech violations by the Biden DOJ, and baseless assumptions.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) had previously sent a letter to House January 6th Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) in November 2022, demanding the preservation of committee records for the incoming Republican-controlled Congress in January 2023.

McCarthy also stated Republicans would hold hearings on why the Capitol was “not secure” on January 6, 2021.

However, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) responded to House Republicans in a letter, stating the Select Committee did not archive temporary committee records not used in hearings or official publications.

This response raised eyebrows and questions about the transparency and integrity of the committee’s actions.
