Former President Trump, a potential contender for the 2024 presidential race, is making headlines once again.

This time, he’s taking aim at immigration policies, specifically targeting Marxists seeking to immigrate to the United States. According to a report by Axios, Trump is advocating for ideological screenings to prevent communists from entering the country.

Trump’s proposed immigration reforms are not just about ideology, but also about ensuring those who come to the U.S. legally do not become a burden on the nation. He proposes to restrict immigrants from countries with high visa overstay rates from accessing the immigration system.

Additionally, he wants to require applicants for immigration programs to demonstrate their ability to afford health insurance and expensive bonds before they can enter the country.

The former president’s plans extend beyond these measures. He is also considering the creation of a maritime blockade in American and Latin American waters to curb drug smuggling.

His strategy includes reinstating his previous travel ban on certain Middle Eastern and African countries and designating drug cartels as “unlawful enemy combatants.”

Trump’s focus on border security is particularly evident in his plans for the southern border.

He pledges to extend a buoy barrier floating in the Rio Grande, a move initiated by Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott and currently contested by the Biden administration through ongoing litigation.

In response to the surge of illegal immigration at the southern border, Trump has proposed several measures.

These include deporting migrant gang members under a section of the 1798 Alien and Sedition Acts, completing the wall, reinstating the Migrant Protection Protocols, and restarting the Title 42 public health order.

Since Trump left office, illegal immigration has seen a significant increase at the U.S.-Mexico border.

In fiscal year 2022, Border Patrol recorded more than 2.2 million illegal migrant encounters, compared to roughly 1.6 million in fiscal year 2021 and approximately 600,000 in fiscal year 2020, according to federal data.

Trump adviser Stephen Miller told Axios, “For those passionate about securing our immigration system… the first 100 days of the Trump administration will be pure bliss — followed by another four years of the most hard-hitting action conceivable.”

This statement underscores the former president’s commitment to stringent immigration policies and border security.

While Trump’s campaign spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment, these proposed changes signal a clear message. Trump is determined to secure America’s borders and ensure those who enter the country do so legally and without posing a burden to the nation.
