President Trump’s former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, has always had a question mark handing over his head.
Being close to the events of January 6, 2021, federal investigators have been circling Meadows for quite some time. Now, Trump believes the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Special Counsel Jack Smith have gotten Meadows to flip on him.
Meadows could be useful to the prosecutorial case in terms of alleged improper storage of classified material and Trump trying to “overturn” the 2020 election results.
A few months ago, Meadows and those close to him stopped taking Trump’s calls and stopped answering communications from Trump allies.
We do know that Meadows testified in front of a grand jury in the case of the documents, but it’s unknown what he said. George Terwilliger, Meadows’ lawyer, says his client did nothing but tell the “truth” to the jury.
Trump has apparently been talking to close advisers and lawyers about Meadows and believes his former CoS may be cooperating with staff in order to lessen his own potential legal troubles.
What are the chances Meadows is telling them what they want to hear that fits the anti-Trump narrative and exaggerates what really happened?
It’s the oldest story in the book…
There’s no clear evidence about what Meadows has done at this point.
Meadows was formerly hoping to get a powerful role in a potential future Trump campaign or even run his 2024 candidacy, but after that didn’t happen late last year is reportedly when Meadows may have turned.
It’s also known that Meadows’ December 2021 book “The Chief’s Chief” has caused headaches for Trump and his team.
The book served as an evidence source for investigators looking for a timeline, along with providing more information on the classified documents and other parts of the case.
