Earlier this month, former President Trump underwent an indictment for his handling of classified records.
Authorities accuse Trump of taking said records to his residence after he left the White House, storing them in insecure places, refusing to hand them over, and boasting of having them.
Trump, on the other hand, maintains this is all a witch hunt. The former president also stated he’s not being held to the same standards as other politicians who were found with classified documents, yet managed to steer clear of indictments.
Now, it’s just come out that a trial date for this case was set, according to Fox News.
Monday, August 14 is when the trial will commence for the case alleging that Trump mishandled classified records. This date was confirmed by the judge presiding over the case. However, Trump’s legal counsel is expected to push for a postponement of the trial’s starting period.
If the judge honors the request for a delay of the trial, then it could be kicked later into August or even in the latter months of this year. Right now, there’s no way to be sure.
The former president has been clear that despite the legal issues he faces, he’s not going to hang up his efforts to secure the White House again.
Trump, during a recent Fox News interview, also asserted that he didn’t break any laws amid his handling of classified documents.
In various Truth Social posts, Trump even insisted the people prosecuting him are crooked, motivated by the wrong reasons, and twisting the law for the sake of double standards.
Right now, it remains to be seen how any potential trial impacts Trump’s campaign to secure the Republican nomination for the White House. The first GOP primary debate is likewise set to take place in August.
