NextImg:Texas Moves to Crack Down Against Drunk Driving - The Conservative Brief

Drunk driving is a very serious problem in this country. It causes the unnecessary loss of lives. Likewise, drunk driving is also a selfish and intentional act with zero regard for the very real consequences associated with it.

Nationwide, there are already anti-drunk driving laws on the books. However, the amount of drunk driving cases indicates a real need to further crack down on the matter.

Thankfully, Texas is taking on drunk driving without abandon. According to San Antonio Current, individuals who opt to engage in drunk driving will have to face serious consequences if their actions lead to the deaths of people who have children.

Texas Gov. Abbott recently signed HB 393 into law. This new law dictates that if parents of a child younger than 18 die at the hands of a convicted drunk driver, the drunk driver will then need to cough up child support payments.

The amount of child support owed in this situation will be determined by a number of factors. These factors shall include the child’s education, living standards, and more.

Furthermore, drunk drivers who owe child support under this law will need to commence making payments no more than 12 months after they finish serving a prison sentence for their crime.

The Lone Star State’s new anti-drunk driving law will subsequently begin on Friday, September 1.

With Texas taking bold action to crack down against drunk drivers, it remains to be seen if other states employ similar laws.

No one should be drunk driving, especially when they know about the danger and harm it poses to others. Upping the ante at the legislative level also further drives home the message that drunk driving isn’t going to be tolerated or accepted under any circumstances.
