Back in May, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis jumped into the 2024 presidential election. This followed after much anticipation about whether DeSantis would run and when he would declare his candidacy.
Though even before May, various pro-DeSantis super PACs have been fundraising with the hopes of the governor getting in the race. Since DeSantis officially became a candidate, these PACs are now working hard to ensure he secures the 2024 GOP nomination.
A spokesperson for one of these PACs, Never Back Down, just made an interesting announcement, however, per the Daily Mail.
During a Twitter Spaces over the weekend, Never Back Down PAC spokesman Steve Cortes conceded that there’s some work to do to get DeSantis on track to being the frontrunner for the Republican nomination.
Cortes explained right now, former President Trump holds the position of “runaway frontrunner.” Yet, the spokesman for the pro-DeSantis PAC also made the case that while the Florida governor’s team faces an “uphill battle,” he also doesn’t see it as a battle that can’t be won.
Later during the Twitter Spaces, Cortes also said he switched from being pro-Trump to pro-DeSantis because he views the latter as more electable than the former.
Likewise, it’s the view of the Never Back Down PAC’s spokesman that this primary race is really only between DeSantis and the former president.
Additional candidates, such as Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, and Mike Pence have been written off by Cortes and others as not standing a real chance.
As the GOP primary continues, Republican voters will have to decide which candidate they believe is best suited to go up against Joe Biden. Next month, the GOP presidential candidates will also partake in their first debate, thus giving voters a more candid look at all of them.
