Sen. LaTonya Johnson, a Democrat from Wisconsin, spoke on the congressional floor during Wednesday last week. She also used some foul language, along with making offensive remarks.
A newly released Republican state spending blueprint was the topic of Johnson’s profanity-laced diatribe, as the state senator representing the 6th district of Wisconsin.
“F- the suburbs…because they don’t understand a godd*mn thing concerning how it is when living in the city,” Johnson said to her Senate counterparts.
Johnson’s offensive remarks were originally brought to light by Scott Bauer of the AP.
Her outburst was over concerns about Milwaukee’s crime and worries that it may be migrating to the suburbs. Even some Democratic lawmakers opposed Johnson for her rude, offensive remarks and she has yet to retract them.
Johnson was promptly defended by Wisconsin state legislator Francesca Hong, who insisted she was only speaking “passionately.”
Republicans, according to Hong, are responsible for “legislating racism.” Look at Hong’s post on Twitter below, which is horribly misspelled:
Many Twitter users pointed out those who have chosen to live in the suburbs are actually very aware of what it’s like to live in the cities, which is exactly why they’ve made the decision to live elsewhere.
Other posters suggested that instead of complaining, Johnson should rather focus on fixing the issues that city dwellers are currently facing.
In accordance with the Badger Institute, Johnson’s profanities come at a time when violence in Milwaukee is still a significant issue.
The non-profit Wisconsin organization stated in a report from last March that, in comparison to 2019, crime in Milwaukee rose by 22.6%, with violent crime being up 15.6% and property crime being up 26% versus three years ago.
Milwaukee came in third in the nation for violent crime last month, according to SafeHome.org, which draws its statistics from FBI data.
