On June 15, 2023, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) announced House Republicans will try to criticize Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) again for making false accusations against former President Trump.
This recent announcement came after the House voted against a resolution to censure Schiff on June 16.
In that specific vote, 20 Republicans opposed Luna’s censure resolution, due to how it called for a $16 million fine to be levied against Schiff for allegedly lying about collusion between Trump and Russia.
This is something that several investigations were never able to prove. Luna claims the figure is approximately half the cost of investigating Trump. These probes were never able to demonstrate collusion.
On June 15, Luna claimed she reached an agreement with 20 Republicans who voted against her initial resolution to adopt new censure language. She added the House is expected to vote on the legislation soon.
The resolution declared that Schiff disseminated false accusations for years about the Trump campaign colluding with Russia.
It specifically cited Schiff’s false allegations spread on March 20, 2017, where he used claims from the Steele Dossier accusing several Trump associates of colluding with Russia.
Furthermore, the resolution accuses Schiff of abusing his position as chairman of the Intelligence Committee to behave in a dishonest manner on multiple occasions.
He did so by publicly and falsely denying his staff was in communication with a whistleblower to kick off the first impeachment of former President Trump.
In its concluding statement, the resolution declared Schiff is being censured for misleading the American public and engaging in conduct unbecoming of a member of the US House.
On top of that, the resolution noted the House Committee on Ethics will launch an investigation into Schiff’s false statements, misrepresentations, and misuse of sensitive information.
