NextImg:Pride Flag Banned in Hamtramck City - The Conservative Brief

On Tuesday, the all-Muslim Hamtramck City Council passed a resolution prohibiting the display of LGBTQ+ Pride flags on any city property, bringing complaints that the multicultural community had chosen prejudice over inclusivity.

The alleged “neutrality banner resolution” also forbids the flying of flags representing political, racial, ethnic, or religious affiliations and declares that the city would not give “special consideration to any group.”

After over three hours of public remarks and weeks of passionate discussion, the result was unanimous.

At City Hall, dozens of sympathizers and critics gathered in the council’s chambers and corridor to express their opinions.

As a Lebanese individual, Hassan Aoun, a Dearborn-based activist, declared, “I embrace the American flag.”

You guys come in here and start stating, ‘Oh, it’s Pride Month,’ and we aren’t going to remain here and accept that. No issue if you’re gay. To be homosexual is to be alone. Don’t sit here while you force anything down any individual’s or my throat.”

However, others who supported the flag attacked the council for using religion to excuse an evil deed.

The fact that homosexuality is considered a sin, which is something we all see but are unwilling to discuss, is what, according to local Russ Gordon, has an impact on people. That is an improper justification for prohibiting this flag. Although it may a sin, there are many gay people who reside in this city, and that banner symbolizes them.

Others made fun of the city for praising its diversity while outlawing a banner that promotes inclusiveness.

Rose Carver, who was sporting a clown nose, pulled up a banner that read, “Hamtramck invites you if you’re heterosexual.”

To emphasize the bold council’s stance on neutrality, let me respectfully give a redesigned Hamtramck city placard, Carver stated. As long as it does not upset other people’s religious views or histories, this fresh sign will let both tourists and residents understand that this city supports variety.
