In recent years, parents have been very vocal about the things they don’t want their children to be exposed to.
This is largely driven by the fact that schools across the nation have started implementing problematic things into various curricula, such as critical race theory, drag queen story time hour, and more.
Growing numbers of parents are taking a stand, speaking out during school board meetings, etc. However, rather than listening to the mothers and fathers of America, they’re being increasingly attacked by various left-wing organizations.
In the latest turn of events, the Southern Poverty Law Center just added advocates of parental rights to a list of “hate and antigovernment” organizations, per the New York Post.
For context, groups that have landed on the list of “hate and antigovernment” include the KKK.
Yet, the Southern Poverty Law Center deemed it acceptable to add parental rights advocates to this list because of so-called “hard right attacks” that it believes are “ramping up.”
The “hard right attacks” largely reference parents who’ve spoken out about wanting their kids to be exposed to only content that’s age-appropriate. It’s also an apparent nod to mothers and fathers who don’t want critical race theory or other left-wing ideologies being forced on their daughters and sons.
All things considered, what the Southern Poverty Law Center is doing here doesn’t bode well. There should be work to bridge the gap between parents and the education system, rather than simply demonizing parents who speak out on behalf of their kids’ wellbeing.
If stuff like this continues, there’s a very real likelihood that more parents will start pulling their kids out of public schools and homeschooling them instead.
An education system that won’t even listen to parents who are voicing legitimate concerns can’t be trusted with the education or welfare of students.
