Around the world, people everywhere are aware of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler’s rise to power, and the subsequent horrors of the Holocaust.

However, while the general event is well-established and familiar to the public, sometimes, the individual stories of people who were forced to make it through this time get lost or forgotten.

Nonetheless, according to the Daily Mail, one painting reveals the story of three girls who fled to Great Britain in the 1930s to escape the horrors of Nazi Germany.

Quite simply, between 1938 to 1939, Kindertransport was all about getting children out of areas controlled by the Nazis.

In fact, it’s because of this operation that three young girls, Hannah Cohn, Ruth Adamecz, and Inge Adamecz, were photographed at the Liverpool Street Station, while also playing with a doll.

This photograph became an icon in its own right, earning its place in various museums.

However, it took decades before the identities of these girls were finally revealed. The information came to light, thanks to Hannah’s daughter, who later informed the BBC of her and her sister’s time spent in England during World War II.

In a full-circle moment, Inge actually got to meet the daughters of her friend, Hannah, who passed eight years ago.

Operation Kindertransport is responsible for saving countless lives that would have likely been stolen by the Nazis.

The heroes involved in these rescues helped thousands of children find safety and new lives in Britain. These kids came from not just Germany, but also Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Poland.

Given the last developments, one can only wonder how many more stories like this exist in paintings, yet haven’t been fully told or discovered.

In the meantime, the now-adult children of one girl in the photograph have spoken with the press about their experiences growing up in Britain.
