A letter penned by former President Obama in his youth has resurfaced, shedding light on his self-proclaimed ‘androgynous’ mind and imaginative love for men.
The letter, written to his then-girlfriend Alex McNear, was discovered by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David Garrow, who included it in his book “Rising Star.”
Obama, at the tender age of 21, wrote to McNear about his mental state, stating, “My mind is androgynous to a great extent and I hope to make it more so until I can think in terms of people, not women as opposed to men.”
He further added, “But, in returning to the body, I see that I have been made a man, and physically in life, I choose to accept that contingency.”
The letter, which dates back to November 1982, also contains some redacted paragraphs that were later uncovered by Garrow.
These paragraphs reveal Obama’s imaginative love for men, a fact that he openly admitted to McNear. “You see, I make love to men daily, but in the imagination,” he wrote.
This intriguing piece of history is currently owned by Emory University, which strictly prohibits its removal or photography.
However, Garrow’s friend Harvey Klehr managed to transcribe the redacted paragraphs by hand and sent them to the author, providing a glimpse into Obama’s youthful musings.
Interestingly, Garrow, while discussing the letter, stated that there was nothing unusual about Obama’s thoughts. As a historian, he believes a majority of human beings have sexual fantasies. Obama’s admission is simply a reflection of this universal human experience.
Obama, who has been married to Michelle Obama since 1992 and is a father of two, dated McNear during his year at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Despite the revelations from the letter, there has been no comment from the former president or his representatives.
The discovery of this letter offers a unique insight into the mind of a young Barack Obama, long before he became the commander-in-chief. It reveals a side of him that many may find surprising, given his public persona.
