On the seventh anniversary of the Orlando Pulse shooting, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) took the time to preach about enacting gun control, dismissing the fact the shooter himself abided by the very laws she is advocating for.
Since the first anniversary in 2017, Pelosi regularly calls for gun control on the set date. She’s demanding background checks, waiting periods, both covered by Floridian law and the infamous “assault weapons ban.”
The assault on the Orlando Pulse Club happened on June 12, 2016, resulting in over 50 fatalities, including the death of Omar Mateen himself, and 58 injuries.
Within hours of the event, CBS News released a report detailing that Mateen’s two weapons, a pistol, and a rifle, both of which he used in the assault, passed background checks and the three-day waiting period.
The state of Florida requires a three-day interval before purchasing a firearm, which Mateen also had to pass through.
Unironically, Pelosi refrained from speaking a word about Mateen pledging his allegiance to then-ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi before the shooting, let alone his actual motivations not being “anti-LGBTQ hate.”
Mateen himself even notified authorities of his actions, spewing Islamist rhetoric over the phone with the operator, prompting swearing unity with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Pelosi, in a press release, began touting the “Assault Weapons Ban” as part of her “memorial.” She said progress on gun control has been with President Biden, but House Republicans must join their Democratic counterparts to pass such legislation.
Recently, House Democrats are trying to “force” the Republican majority to pass legislation on gun control.
So far, House Republicans appear to be resistant to the left’s advances, in addition to internal party divisions on both sides also playing a role in enacting such laws.
