The Elon Musk vs. Mark Zuckerberg cage fight has a significant chance of unfolding, despite it originally being thought of as a part of Twitter trolling.
UFC President Dana White is euthanistic about the potential match between Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, and Zuckerberg, co-founder of Facebook, believing it will be the most watched fight ever.
White said he has faith in both men, given their prior experience in the field, with Zuckerberg’s involvement in jiu-jitsu competitions. At the same time, Elon practiced martial arts growing up in South Africa.
The idea to set up a fight comes after Instagram’s announcement about launching Threads, a social media platform to compete directly with Twitter. Musk humorously issued a “cage match” challenge to Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg appeared to confirm Musk’s challenge via Instagram Story by simply saying, “send me location.”
UFC legend Georges St-Pierre (MMA) reached out to Elon Musk via Twitter offering to train him. Musk accepted the offer almost immediately.
St-Pierre, a retired professional mixed martial artist, is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished fighters. He has earned this reputation by achieving the status of a two-division champion in the UFC.
On Tuesday, podcaster Lex Fridman, who reportedly has a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, shared his encounter on Twitter. In doing so, he also made the public aware of an unplanned martial arts training session with Musk.
Fridman described Musk as impressive with his strength, power, and proficiency in standing and ground techniques.
Dana White reportedly spoke to Musk and Zuckerberg about the fight of the century and confirmed they were serious about going forward with it. So far, a date for the fight still remains to be announced.
