Former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake recently sounded off against 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis.
Her anger in this case is over the DeSantis campaign using artificial intelligence (AI) in an attack ad against Trump.
This week, Kari Lake criticized DeSantis for using artificial intelligence in his campaign during an ad to portray Trump’s dishonesty.
Lake alleges that her fellow politician told lies about Trump and used AI to deceive people into thinking they’re real. The ad makes it look like Trump is insulting Iowa, but the voice is just an AI imitation of Trump’s voice.
Lake called it “heartbreaking” to see DeSantis go down to “such a low level” to take hits at Trump.
Some time ago, the DeSantis campaign put up another ad using AI in which he made collages of Trump and Fauci hugging. The ad said, ‘real-life Trump’.
Never Back Down PAC has invested heavily in the DeSantis campaign and its ads. In this ad that has Lake worked up, Trump’s voice is faked to insult Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.
A senior adviser to the Trump campaign said it is nothing more than a desperate attempt to deceive Americans and gain support for DeSantis’ failing campaign.
Lake wants real action taken against the use of AI in political campaigns. She’s demanding that Congress pass laws prohibiting the misuse of AI.
Lake said people are bombarded by fake news every day; this just makes it worse and more likely for campaigns to seriously and fraudulently mislead voters.
There’s no doubt that AI poses a danger to the future of democracy and fairness in politics, but trying to stop its use is difficult. Nonetheless, Lake is bringing up this important issue and centering it in the public consciousness.
