The witch hunt against former President Trump is getting more serious by the day. Democrats and their media partners can’t stop trying to put Trump in prison or at least derail his 2024 run for POTUS.
Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida has a new plan to safeguard the election and Trump. He wants to call special counsel Jack Smith before the congressional committee and then bring Trump forward as a whistleblower.
Whistleblowers have legal immunity in some cases; so Gaetz would hope to shield Trump from the federal charges he’s facing.
Gaetz says part of the problem is his own fellow Republicans. According to him, “too many” of his GOP colleagues have the same “loser mentality” that was all over during the Mueller investigation.
The Mueller investigation was a special counsel investigation from 2017 to 2019, looking into accusations that Trump had worked with Russia to get elected.
It found the allegations were false, but many Republicans simply waited it out and hoped it would blow over, which is what Gaetz is calling the “loser mentality” here.
According to Gaetz, the way this could be done is simple. Jack Smith would be required to come in, testify in front of the Judiciary Committee, and be given a 15 day subpoena.
If he doesn’t show, he’s found in criminal contempt, also potentially opening up AG Merrick Garland to impeachment. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy would make a select committee and call on Trump to testify, giving him immunity.
Various Republicans have also suggested Garland should be impeached. So, this plan would also include that element and make Trump the “ultimate whistleblower,” as Gaetz said.
Would this plan work? It’s honestly a long shot, especially with the stranglehold the left now has on the judiciary and federal government, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth a try.
