After we successfully warded off several attempts from China to listen in on our communications, Cuba decided it was time to betray the US. Cuba is signing a deal with China that would allow Beijing to host a spy base in the country.
In fact, the whole thing was completed in plain sight. China was fully transparent in its intentions.
In exchange, Cuba will be receiving billions of dollars in compensation for hosting the base, giving China the room and resources to construct and operate the facility.
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby stepped forth to criticize China’s actions, explaining our efforts in preventing the CCP from creating spy infrastructure have been futile.
This news couldn’t have come at a worse time either. The tensions between US and China have only gotten worse ever since the balloon incident and the imminent threat of China invading Taiwan.
China’s military officials have deployed their troops in the South China Sea, causing several confrontations and less-than-pleasant interactions between them and US troops deployed in the region.
Much like the balloon’s original intentions were, this spy base would give Beijing the ability to monitor signal intelligence. This means they’ll have access to e-mails, phone calls, and even satellite communications coming to and from American military bases.
With this in mind, it’s hard to know what will be of Anthony Blinken’s scheduled visit to Beijing later in the month. It could be the last ditch effort in salvaging our relationship with China before all hell breaks loose.
Despite his fruitless efforts in repairing US relations with China, Biden has continued to claim he believes these tensions will thaw with time.
This is something one would find hard to believe, considering the country is literally going out of its way to monitor US military operations.
Between the spy missions and tens of thousands of nuclear warheads China has at the ready, things between Washington and Beijing are only going to get progressively worse.
We should prepare for the worst if push comes to shove.
However, this could be yet another way for China to demonstrate its power. The base might as well be nothing more than a decoy and a response to the many US bases near Taiwan.
China has been known for meaningless displays of its advanced technology and overall dominance in the global market. This deal may just end up inconveniencing Cuba more than it would the CCP.
Time will tell just how effective these spy bases are; although there are already officials working around the clock to prevent them from ever being established.
