Devon Archer, a longtime friend and business associate of Hunter Biden at Burisma Holdings, testified before the House Oversight Committee on Monday.
Archer revealed that Hunter Biden put his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, on speakerphone during meetings with business partners on at least 20 occasions. During these calls, he claimed Joe Biden was brought in to promote the Biden family.
In June, Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) issued a subpoena to Devon Archer, compelling him to participate in a deposition as part of the committee’s investigation into the financial affairs of the Biden family.
Archer previously worked for Burisma Holdings and Hunter Biden’s investment firm Rosemont Seneca Partners.
Before the hearing, over the weekend, Biden’s Department of Justice sent out a letter to Archer, demanding he report to prison.
Federal prosecutors in Manhattan filed a letter urging a judge to schedule a date for Devon Archer to begin serving his one-year sentence. This sentence is for a fraud case unrelated to the controversies involving the first son.
The letter came after the Second Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed Archer’s 2018 conviction over defrauding two Amerindian tribes. However, the letter failed to specify when Archer was to surrender himself to the authorities.
Matthew Schwartz, Archer’s attorney, called the DOJ letter an intimidation tactic to prevent his client from testifying before Congress.
“I’m curious why your father’s administration appointees arrested me and placed me in jail. Some of our partners are asking about it out here.” Archer texted Hunter after his 2018 conviction.
Hunter attempted to convince Devon that he was a member of the Biden family and assured him that they would not abandon him.
Additionally, Hunter emphasized to Devon that every prominent family faces scrutiny and challenges. He assured Devon that he belongs to a significant family, not an afterthought and the Bidens stand by him even in difficult times.
