House Judiciary Committee Republicans unveiled a startling revelation that has the potential to change the narrative surrounding the events of January 6.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reportedly lost count of the number of paid informants they had within the crowd of Trump supporters on that fateful day.

This information, released in an explosive email by the House Judiciary Republicans, raises serious questions about the FBI’s operations and their ability to manage their informants.

The revelation came to light through a letter that included transcribed testimony from Steven D’Antuono, the former Assistant Director-in-Charge of the Washington Field Office (WFO).

D’Antuono testified that there were numerous confidential human sources (CHSs), or informants, present in the crowd of Trump supporters on January 6. The number was so high that the FBI lost track of the exact count.

D’Antuono further explained that due to the overwhelming number of CHSs at the Capitol, the WFO requested FBI Headquarters to conduct a poll or send out a message to ascertain how many CHSs were involved.

The responses started pouring in after the outreach from the Headquarters. For instance, a CHS from the Kansas City Field Office reported being on-site at the Capitol and allegedly communicating with his handler during the event.

This new information is deeply concerning as it suggests that the FBI may not be able to adequately monitor the activities and operations of its informants. It appears that the FBI lost control of its CHSs present at the Capitol on January 6.

These revelations amplify existing concerns about the FBI’s use of, and payment to, CHSs who have been accused of fabricating evidence and misrepresenting information.

These concerns are not unfounded. Special Counsel Durham has previously identified issues with the FBI’s use of CHSs.

The Justice Department Inspector General also highlighted critical problems in the FBI’s CHS program, including the FBI’s failure to fully vet CHSs and its willingness to ignore red flags that would call into question an informant’s reliability.

The document containing these revelations was released on Tuesday night by the House Judiciary Republicans. This information is a game-changer, shedding new light on the events of January 6 and raising serious questions about the FBI’s operations.
