Authorities apprehended a Democratic contributor after they say he started a “ginormous blaze” in Yosemite National Park.
Democratic leaders argued the July 2022 fire, which maimed numerous firefighters and damaged over one hundred homes, was caused by climate change.
After his capture on Friday, Edward Fredrick Wackerman (his real name) of Mariposa, California, is accused of several offenses, namely aggravated arson.
According to government documents, the arson culprit has given $1,775 to candidates from the Democratic Party and groups since 2020.
This includes a $1,000 payment to Tim Ryan’s unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign in 2022 and a $400 contribution to the infamous liberal mega PAC, the Lincoln Project.
127 houses and 66 outbuildings had been destroyed in the referred Oak Fire.
The fire burned 30 square miles of land, forcing some 6,000 people to flee, while smoke from the fire traveled over two hundred miles to sections of Nevada and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Ed Wackerman is accused of aggravated arson, along with other felonies.
The district attorney is committed to securing a fair trial and preserving justice since these allegations have substantial legal repercussions, according to a statement from Mariposa County District Attorney Walter Wall.
Authorities did not specify how they think Wackerman sparked the fire.
On July 25, 2022, Sen. Alex Padilla posted on Twitter that they want to extend thanks to all of the firefighters and first responders fighting valiantly under trying circumstances to put out the Oak Fire.
The Democrat then said if they fail to take action on climate change, the drought and extreme weather will only get worse and put additional individuals and assets at risk of wildfire.
Al Gore, a former vice president, stated on July 24, 2022 that droughts and fires are impacting us because of climate change. He thinks more individuals will die and the continued existence of our society is at stake.
