NextImg:California Bill Would Criminalize Parents Who Do Not Affirm Their Child's Transgenderism - The Conservative Brief

It is predictable at this point that California would be one to punish parents for not affirming gender ideology. Its lawmakers spend time complaining about transgenderism and micromanaging daily life.

An amendment to a recently passed California bill would criminalize parents for abuse by not affirming their child’s gender transition.

AB-957 was originally intended for California courts to determine if the “transitioning” child’s parents were “gender-affirming” in custody cases.

The bill was passed on May 3 by California’s State Assembly. However, state Sen. Scott Wiener and Assembly Member Lori Wilson later opted to amend it on June 3.

Wiener’s addition would amend Section 3011 of the current California Family Law, redefining transgenderism as a part of a child’s welfare and safety.

Meaning, if a parent refuses to affirm the transition, their child’s well-being would be at stake.

California courts would then be authorized under Section 3011 to break up the family and remove the child from his or her parents who disapprove of LGBTQ+ ideology.

Under this amendment, a student would be able to report his or her parents to a school’s Gay-Straight Alliance club for child abuse.

In addition, AB-957 potentially allows for a court to decide what organizations fail to uphold gender ideology.

Given the liquidity “gender affirmation” would have under California law, progressive activists/and or organizations could report violations of “abuse” by their conservative opponents to the state courts.

The bill also covers the adoption of foster children, requiring parents to affirm the child’s “gender identity” via contractual obligation.

Jay Richards, director of the Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family at the Heritage Foundation, called the new bill a crude violation of parental and children’s rights.

Richards stated California decided to mandate what European nations already implemented, in addition to making children feel discontent with their bodies at an early age.
