NextImg:Big News in Trump's Race Against Ron DeSantis - The Conservative Brief

2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump has some great news; he’s now leading New Hampshire at 43 percent, far ahead of competitor Ron DeSantis.

Both DeSantis and failed 2016 candidate Chris Christie are tied for a distant second place at 9 percent, compared to Trump’s hefty 43.

As the First in the Nation after the Iowa caucuses, New Hampshire is a key early state that shows a candidate the strength of their campaign.

Unless the race switches to an all-you-can-eat buffet, Christie is in deep trouble. Ron DeSantis may also be headed for an exit sooner rather than later.

At the national level, DeSantis been polling around 17%, compared to Trump’s 42%. Unless he can start at least bridging that halfway mark, it’s hard to see how DeSantis becomes the 2024 candidate.

Even people like Senator Tim Scott, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum are in the same zone of support in New Hampshire as DeSantis.

That zone is extremely minimal. It will be worth a modest book deal, at most, once they eventually lose badly and tie up their campaigns.

Even if DeSantis were to scoop up the remaining 13% of undecided voters in New Hampshire, he’d still only be at 22%, more than lapped by Trump.

DeSantis has money; he has political insiders on his side, but what he doesn’t have is anywhere near that base of ferocious grassroots support that Trump has.

At this point it’s hard to see a path for victory for DeSantis, unless he becomes a lot more charismatic and remarkable.

Despite his many accomplishments, today’s primary voters are very swayed by controversy and panache. They want a candidate who puts on a good show.

At this point, there’s no show like the Trump show and like it or not, DeSantis’ attempt to compete at a more sedate policy level isn’t working.
