President Biden’s administration has been quietly selling off materials intended for the construction of the border wall.

This move is seen as a blatant disregard for transparency, a virtue that Biden had promised to uphold during his tenure. The administration’s actions raised eyebrows and sparked outrage, particularly among Republicans pushing for the completion of the border wall.

On his first day in office, Biden halted the construction of the border wall, a project initiated by his predecessor.

His stance against the wall and border control has been clear from the start. Now, it appears the Department of Defense is discreetly selling off unused materials that were purchased for the wall’s construction.

This move is seen as an attempt to prevent the resumption of the border wall project.

The materials being sold off were meant to serve as vertical bollards for the wall’s 30-foot-tall panels. Last Tuesday, 729 beams were sold, with 13 more lots scheduled for auction on August 23 and August 30.

These sales are happening at a rapid pace, seemingly in response to Republican legislative efforts to resume the wall’s construction through a bill known as the Finish It Act.

The Finish It Act, passed by the Senate in July, aims to compel the Biden administration to complete the border wall. Republicans argue up to $300 million worth of wall components were left to rust when Biden took office.

They propose using these leftover materials or handing them over to states like Texas for their projects. Critics, however, accuse the administration of rushing to sell the leftover materials before the law passes.

The materials being sold are located in an outdoor storage lot in Pima County, Arizona. A Department of Defense spokesman identified them as “excess border wall materials.”

Employees of GovPlanet, the company handling the sales, face termination if they disclose that the materials are from the border wall project. The profits from these sales are being funneled into the Pentagon budget, a move that’s drawn sharp criticism from Republican lawmakers.

Among the critics is Rep. Juan Ciscoman, who represents the border district where the wall components have been sitting idle.

He lambasted Biden for his “refusal to act,” stating the materials have been squandered, first collecting dust in the desert and now being auctioned off. Sen. Roger Wicker, the sponsor of the bill, called the auctions “outrageous, behind-the-scenes maneuvering.”

The sale of these materials is not only a waste of taxpayer money but also a clear indication of the administration’s disregard for border security.

The steel beams, which were sold in five separate lots for an average of $212 each, were intended to be used in the construction of the border wall. Instead, they are now being sold off at a loss, a move that Sen. Tom Cotton, a co-sponsor of the bill, describes as “Bidenomics in a nutshell.”
