At the end of last year, President Biden released “Merchant of Death” Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer who was serving his sentence in American jail.
Just like his predecessor Barack Obama, Biden couldn’t resist the urge to let dangerous criminals and traitors out in society. With Obama, it was Gitmo extremists and Bowe Bergdahl; with Biden, it was Bout.
Though what’s even more humiliating is what Bout is now up to now that he’s back home in Russia. He’s running for office. Yes, seriously.
Biden let Bout go as a prisoner in exchange for US women’s basketball player Brittney Griner, who had been arrested in Russia for taking drugs through the airport.
Bout was imprisoned in America in 2010 after arming a terrorist group and was welcomed back to Russia at the end of last year as a hero. He is a strong supporter of Russia in the war against Ukraine and despises the US government.
He plans to run as a member of a right-wing patriotic party in Russia and try to get into the government there in Krasnoyarsk and Ulyanovsk.
Bout is trying to become an elected member of the Russian parliament there; given how famous he is, there’s a chance he could win.
This would be a strong slap in the face to Biden, electing an arms dealer to government who strongly supports Putin and his policies. Imagine the possibility that Bout grows in power and one day becomes president of Russia…
Bout made it clear how much he supports Putin and the war in Ukraine, saying he might even join up to go fight there against Ukraine after Biden let him out.
Bout was taken into custody by American agents in Thailand and then extradited to the US where he faced his charges and was convicted.
The DOJ says he’s a “prolific” arms dealer who intentionally sold weapons to “enemies” of America around the world.
