In the face of an evolving COVID-19 landscape, the Biden administration is gearing up with a fresh campaign urging Americans to get their booster shots.
This move comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports a surge in COVID-19 cases across the nation, albeit significantly lower than the peak pandemic levels.
The administration’s renewed focus on boosters is set to roll out this fall, according to an official who spoke with Fox Business’ Edward Lawrence.
The official stated, “We will be encouraging all Americans to get those boosters in addition to flu shots and RSV shots.”
This news arrives on the heels of revelations from the CDC and the World Health Organization (WHO) that they are closely monitoring a new variant of the virus causing COVID-19.
This variant, known as BA.2.86, has been classified by the WHO as a “variant under monitoring” due to its high mutation count.
CDC spokesperson Kathleen Conley reassured the public, stating, “Today we are more prepared than ever to detect and respond to changes in the COVID-19 virus.”
“Scientists are working now to understand more about the newly identified lineage in these four cases, and we will share more information as it becomes available.”
Interestingly, this new booster program is slated to launch almost a year after President Biden declared the COVID-19 pandemic “over” in September 2022.
Despite his declaration, the president also acknowledged there was still much work to be done. This juxtaposition raises questions about the administration’s handling of the pandemic and its messaging to the American people.
The White House, when contacted for a comment by Fox News Digital, did not immediately respond. As the Biden administration prepares to roll out its new booster program, it faces the dual challenge of managing the evolving COVID-19 situation and maintaining public trust.
