We’ve come a long way from the Commodore 64.
Computers are now capable of doing great things, from making precise calculations down to the last number to having intelligence of their own, but the latter may be a bit concerning.
AI has been in development ever since mankind sought to create something equal to it. Computer processors have been the only viable medium to host this creation, sparking debate among those opposed to “creating” intelligent, sentient beings.
Of course, an AI program is far from what you’ve probably seen in the Terminator movies. There won’t be any robot takeover in the near future; although we may end up suffering a fate worse than death.
As it turns out, current AI technologies have a tendency to be as woke as they come, often presenting solutions to problems you’d only expect to hear from some liberal arts graduate in California.
That being said, it’s not always the woke part that’s scary, but rather, the ability to tell a person’s political stances with incredible accuracy just by looking at their faces.
A study has shown AI can do this by examining a person’s facial features.
While there is a small margin of error, conservatives are more commonly smiling in pictures, whereas left-wing folk tend to have a much more neutral facial expression. This isn’t saying much about either of the two, unless you’re a computer apparently.
Naturally, the computer didn’t learn this on its own. It was carefully taught to tell the differences between members of the two political groups by a team of scientists working on the study.
This was done in a way that would teach the AI to identify pictures in a similar fashion to how we humans do it. While true intelligence may still be far out of our reach, having a computer guess whether a person is a lib or a conservative with 60%+ accuracy is astounding.
Not even we can do that as consistently as a computer would. Although one would argue the Democrats believe they’re experts at this, seeing as they assume every American belonging to a minority group is one of their voters.
There are certain boundaries that should never be crossed. We may be taking AI too far these days, as it’s being used for a plethora of different things, most of which would be considered unethical a few years back.
China uses AI to monitor everyone. It can easily detect those opposing Xi Jinping’s regime in a massive crowd of people, leaving one wondering what the technology will be capable of in the coming years.
The rule of the robots may as well be right around the corner; we’ll never know just how close it is until it’s too late.
