California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff has reportedly raised over $8.1 million in campaign contributions for his Senate run in the second quarter of 2023.

This considerable sum comes after Schiff was censured by the House, due to his role in the FBI’s investigation into former President Trump, as reported by Politico on Wednesday.

The House, currently controlled by Republicans, voted 213-209 to censure Schiff on June 21. The resolution was introduced by GOP Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna. It pertains to Schiff’s allegations of Trump’s collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential election.

According to the latest figures, Schiff’s campaign now possesses $29.5 million in cash, setting a new fundraising record within the Democrat Party.

This achievement surpasses the previous record set by Democratic Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock, who raised $7.2 million in the second quarter of 2021, as per Politico’s report.

Schiff is among several party members vying to succeed retiring Senator Dianne Feinstein. Other contenders include Reps. Katie Porter, Barbara Lee, and Ro Khanna.

Early polling data suggests Schiff has a slender lead ahead of the 2024 primary.

He already received notable endorsements from several figures, including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California, three former California Congress members, and numerous state and local lawmakers.

In January, Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy removed Schiff from the House Intelligence Committee, with reasons mirroring those stated in Luna’s censure resolution.

Schiff’s fundraising campaign, according to Politico, has shown impressive results.

After raising $6.5 million in the first quarter, the campaign attracted more than 144,000 individual donors from across the country, amounting to over 233,000 contributions in the second quarter.

Notably, donations came from all 58 counties in California and each of the 50 states, with a majority of contributions coming from grassroots donors.

These strong fundraising figures highlight Schiff’s widespread support, potentially indicating a strong performance in the upcoming election.
