In the Republican primary, the candidates are rapidly being sized up. GOP voters now have to determine who they want to take on Joe Biden next year.

Within the next several weeks, Republicans contenders who are doing fairly well in the race will engage in their first debate. This is going to draw even more attention in their direction as the election season heats up.

One candidate that’s certainly been in the headlines is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. DeSantis jumped into the 2024 presidential election in late May, following a lot of talk about if he’d get involved.

Now, it’s come down the grapevine that conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch may be seeking an alternative to the Florida governor, per the Daily Mail.

Both the Rolling Stone and New York Times put out pieces that allege Murdoch has concerns when it comes to DeSantis. Apparently, the media mogul feels that the Florida governor is leaning too heavily into anti-wokeness.

A six-week abortion ban signed by DeSantis months ago, along with culture war issues being front and center in his campaign thus far, are other matters that Murdoch allegedly isn’t feeling great about.

Therefore, rumor has it Murdoch wants to see Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin get into the race. In late 2021, Youngkin pulled off an unexpected win in the state’s gubernatorial election by focusing on education and other matters of importance than span across the political aisle.

So far, there’s been no word that the Virginia governor has any presidential aspirations at this time. Though a Youngkin 2024 presidential run also isn’t totally out of the realm of possibilities.

The Virginia governor’s current focus, however, has been on policy at the state level. Meanwhile, as the 2024 GOP primary plays out, Youngkin’s name is being tossed around as a prospective vice presidential candidate.
