A trio allegedly tried to break into a Florida home in the middle of the day late last week, but the armed homeowner mowed them down — fatally shooting one and wounding another, while the third was soon captured after running off.
Three individuals tried to break into a home in the Hickory Hill Drive area of Port Richey around 2:10 p.m. Friday, WTSP-TV reported, citing the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
But the homeowner opened fire on the three individuals before they fully entered the home, deputies told the station.
Deputies added that one of the shot suspects reportedly died at the scene, WTSP reported, adding that another suspect was wounded, arrested, and taken to a hospital.
The third individual also was arrested after deputies conducted a brief search, the sheriff's office told the station.
More from WTSP:
Multiple schools in the area were allegedly placed on controlled campus status following the attempted burglary "out of an abundance of caution." As the investigation continues, Fox Hollow Elementary, Jazz Dayspring Academy and Schrader Elementary are still on alert.
The investigation is active and ongoing, the station added.
Commenters under the sheriff's office Facebook post about the incident seemed pleased with the outcome:
