NextImg:Meghan Markle's PR makeover

The Queen of Privacy is doing it again. After a brief hiatus from the spotlight, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has appointed a PR guru to help resurrect her image. Cockburn isn’t all that surprised the Sussexes are setting their sights back on Britain — they were, after all, dubbed “Hollywood’s biggest losers” at the end of last year.

Meghan has employed an as yet unnamed professional public relations exec to help overcome her “popularity problem,” especially in the UK. The job role will also include time working on the Sussex’s not-for-profit Archewell Foundation. Eagle-eyed readers might remember this is the company that produced Meghan’s Archetypes podcast series which ran for a whole, er, twelve episodes, after being unceremoniously funneled less than a year after Spotify funneled $20 million into it.

Mischief, mayhem and Washington gossip from The Spectator’s intrepid beat reporter.

The new recruit begins work while Harry deliberates over his return to the UK. There is speculation the Prince may be interested in stepping back into a royal role while his father King Charles receives treatment for his recent cancer diagnosis. With a rather semi-skimmed version of the royal family working at the moment — the king has halted his work, the Princess of Wales is recuperating from surgery, the Prince of Wales has taken time off to support his wife and Camilla is taking a week off — Harry appears to have glimpsed an opportunity.

“The Sussexes have a popularity problem,” one PR exec told the Mail, “and can see there is an opportunity to step in to full a vacuum over here with their own work.” Britain is “still a very important place for Meghan to have a presence,” he said, adding that her British audience would “love her looks and fashion sensibility.”

Only time will tell how this maneuver will go down. Is professional help what Meghan’s been missing all along? Or is it too little too late…?
