In what can only be described as a win for the Wisconsin Republican Party, that state's Supreme Court has (for the moment) rejected a suit to withdraw the Badger State's congressional district maps. That means that the present maps will stay in place through the 2026 mid-terms, which makes the prospect for Republican candidates a little brighter.
Democrats, on the other hand, are no doubt disappointed.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court on June 25 rejected a request to reconsider the state's congressional maps ahead of next year's midterm elections, all but ensuring the current maps will remain in place for 2026.
The liberal-controlled court's decision, which was made without comment from the justices, marked the second time in the past two years that the court has rejected a push from Democrats to change the battleground state's federal maps. It is a loss for Democrats who sought more favorable lines as they aim to retake control of the House in 2026.
This has implications at the national level as well. If President Trump's agenda is to have any chance of moving ahead, the GOP must keep control of the House and Senate in the midterms, and historical precedent informs us that this isn't an easy task. It would be better, of course, to expand on Republican majorities, and this decision may make that a little easier.
Democratic groups filed their latest petitions in May, asking the court to reconsider the congressional map lines. Any change would have likely made two of the state's six Republican-held House seats more competitive for Democrats. Republicans hold six of the state's eight House seats.
Democrats in their challenge argued the current map was drawn based on a "least change" principle that they said the court abandoned when it struck down the state's legislative maps in December 2023. That theory refers to favoring maps that minimize changes to existing boundary lines.
Wisconsin is not the only state reworking district maps in the hopes of making them friendlier to one side or the other, and they certainly won't be the last.
The post continues:
That could have been HORRIBLE for Republicans.
In the 2025 Supreme Court election, Susan Crawford WON and vowed to make this happen, but she has not taken office yet. CC: @ScottPresler
With this development, it is MUCH less likely that Democrats will be able to rig the Wisconsin map in time for the midterms.
At the SAME TIME, Republicans in Ohio and Texas are considering redrawing their maps to benefit the GOP. MAKE IT HAPPEN!
If the name Marc Eilas sounds familiar, that's because he is the Clinton creature who, in 2016, hired Fusion GPS to assemble what would become the Steele Dossier - the source of the "Russian collusion hoax" aimed at scuppering President Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. Clearly, that didn't work. And now, in Wisconsin, his latest effort hasn't worked, either.

It's safe to say Wisconsin Republicans are pleased:
Shortly after the court's decision, Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany responded to the news by posting a photo to X of himself with Republican U.S. Rep. Scott Fitzgerald holding beers and smiling. "Cheers, Scott," he wrote.
Now, we can look ahead to the midterms with a little more optimism. For now. November 2026 is still a long way away.
