Democrats have not exactly covered themselves in glory over the last several days of rioting in Los Angeles. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has been reduced to crying on camera as he watches his presidential dreams go up in smoke, and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass has shifted to begging her residents to clean up graffiti. No one has made a bigger fool of themselves than Rep. Maxine Waters, though.
Early on during the unrest, she attempted to infiltrate an ICE detention facility, having the door slammed in her face in one of the funnier moments of the last week. After that, she took to the Capitol podium to announce "there was no violence" in Los Angeles.

To say that position was never sustainable would be an understatement, and Waters has now done a laughable about-face. During an interview on Wednesday, she finally admitted that violence is occurring. Fortunately, she knows just who is to blame. Take a wild guess.
OLD MAXINE WATERS: Don't miss the point, you all. Don't think that somehow, because they called out the National Guard, there was violence. There was no violence. I was on the street. I know.
NEW MAXINE WATERS: He started this. There should be no violence. He should not continue to support violence. They should not be edged (?) on and, you know, provoked, and anyway, and that's what the President of the United States is doing to exert his power, and to show that he's in charge, and to show that he's going to get the numbers that he promised to get, to get people deported.
How predictable. So we went from "there was no violence" to accusing Trump of supporting violence and "edging" on the left-wing rioters. You know, because if the federal government dares to enforce immigration law, mostly against convicted criminals, mind you, that's a "provocation." It's such an absurd moving of the goalposts and a morally depraved argument.
I can't help but wonder, though. If Waters and her cohorts (Newsom has made similar accusations) truly believe this is all some grand plan by Trump to "exert his power," have they tried asking their radical base to just...not riot? Wouldn't that be better than playing into the hands of the bad orange man?
Of course, this isn't about Trump trying to "exert his power." He did not instigate this, and he didn't make left-wingers burn police cars and assault officers. They chose to do that, not because they care deeply about illegal immigrants, but because they see chaos and anarchy as a way to fulfill their Marxist dreams of destroying Western civilization. That may sound lofty, but that is what motivates these lunatics, and it's why all these "protests" look the same even when the causes seem distinct.
Waters is just a useful idiot. She's willing to use her political position to protect violent thugs, and they are happy to have her support.
