It may interest RedState readers to learn that I have officially made the big time, national American political scene today, in the MAINSTREAM MEDIA!
POLITICO, a political MSM organ that I have spent many enjoyable hours belittling for their constant left-wing, uniformed and error prone Democrat propaganda, has officially labeled the paper I co-wrote – with my former boss, the former Attorney General of Virginia and the former Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, Ken Cuccinelli – as THE OFFICIAL PLAN B for President Trump and the White House to combat the increasing organized violence by antifa and other left-wing terror groups, and the other out-of-control crime problems, which are being thwarted by partisan Democrat public officials:
But even as the White House insists the president is on firm legal ground, Trump has made clear he has a plan B: the Insurrection Act, an 1807 law that gives the president emergency powers to deploy troops on U.S. soil to quell what the president deems an insurrection.
The Center for Renewing America last year published a paper on how the Insurrection Act could be used to help secure the border, and the document heavily hinted that this could apply to U.S. cities, he said.
Now, because it is a POLITICO report, it is rife with inaccuracies. Starting with, of course, that while the specific paper did discuss the Insurrection Act, that was not actually the main point of the paper. In fact, it was primarily focused on the Posse Comitatus Act, a federal law of the United States that was passed in 1878, soon after the Civil War.
The PCA was passed largely at the behest of racist Southern Democrats who wanted to disenfranchise African Americans in the South and defeat the Northern Republicans, and U.S. Army brass who were tired of their troops being grabbed by various public officials outside of their unit structure to enforce the law to protect these African Americans from these Southern Democrat racists. Unfortunately, today, the PCA sponsorship is assigned much more noble motives – it was done to protect the American people from the military being used to subjugate them, don’t you know! – and has been misconstrued and misunderstood by the often braindead, or just lazy, U.S. judiciary and its staff to limit presidential powers to deploy the military to protect America’s borders and enforce its laws.
Btw, this Center paper was in turn based on another legal paper on the same subject that I wrote in law school. At the time, I earned a solid B+.
I have discussed the PCA several times at RedState. See here and here.
Now, had POLITICO reached out to me, or to my far better known and far more scholarly and greater legal mind senior co-writer, who is currently a prominent talking head perched at the Center for Renewing America, which commissioned this very paper, we may have been able to educate Myah Ward about what he/she (I honestly don’t know) was reporting on.
Then again, this is POLITICO. Following standard reporting methods? Naaaaahhhhh.
Which is not to say that POLITICO itself has never grown as a paper. While it is true that their 2006 promise to members of the Americans for Tax Reform meeting – to be objective and non-partisan – was such an obvious joke even then that their founders were literally laughed out of the room, their articles themselves have certainly become better and more in-depth Democrat and left-wing partisan slop over the years. Originally, at POLITICO, if you read the title and the short blurb at the top of the article, this included all the actual information contained within the entire article. The rest of the article was just surplusage. Now, their articles provide more details and real reporting despite being Democrat partisan and leftist biased screeds.
Anyway, I would like to humbly thank POLITICO and Myah Ward for vaguely noticing something I wrote, somewhat describing it without mentioning me by name, and despite their obvious errors about the paper itself, in a national newspaper that focuses on Washington, DC politics, and claiming that it is PLAN B for the Trump administration.
And I totally trust that they got the latter part of their report 100 percent correct.
I would also like to thank my family, my wife, my parents, my siblings, and any other assorted hangers-on that would like to steal some credit for my newfound fifteen minutes of fame, for their nurture and encouragement of me over the years (but not you family members who are currently fighting with me over politics).
I would also like to thank my legal professor, who gave me that B+ in my class at The Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University, for all of his assistance with the original paper. Unfortunately, he is now a confirmed and virulent Never Trumper and will not be so proud of my work and his own participation in said work with me. Oh well, it happens.
Never change, POLITICO.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
