NextImg:When You See Gavin Newsom in South Carolina, You Know He's Running for POTUS

Yeah, he's running.

It's a little early yet - no, scratch that, it's a lot early yet to be making serious bets about the 2028 presidential election. Oh, I suspect that JD Vance will seek the top spot, and if things with the Trump administration keep going like they have been, he's a cinch to win the nomination. But on the Democratic side? Well, they have quite a collection of nuts who are on the wrongest side of every wrong side possible, not least of which is California's impeccably coiffed Governor Gavin Newsom. On Monday, we learn that he's visiting South Carolina, an early primary state - and, yeah, he's doing the good old "voter meet and greet" shuffle.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom heads to South Carolina this week to spend two days meeting with voters in the state that officially held the first primary in the Democrats' 2024 calendar.

The trip by the term-limited governor with a large national profile is sure to spark plenty of 2028 speculation, since Newsom is considered a potential contender for the next Democratic presidential nomination.

The South Carolina Democratic Party, which announced the two-day swing, said Newsom will take part Tuesday and Wednesday in meet and greets, to shake hands and take questions, during eight stops in cafes, coffee shops and churches.

The South Carolina Democrats wasted no time blasting the news out on X:

Oh, he's running, all right.

Of course, while Newsom is in South Carolina spreading all manner of hogwash about his record in California, Democrats in South Carolina are trying to put as much lipstick on that pig as they can:

"Governor Newsom leads the largest economy in America and the fourth largest in the world, and he’s coming to meet folks in towns that have been hollowed out by decades of Republican control," state party chair Christale Spain said in a statement.

Yeah, good luck with that. Governor Newsom would come to this party with quite the track record, and it's one that JD Vance or any other Republican nominee should be delighted to be running against.

He's on the wrong side of every issue. Not only does California have the highest population of homeless people and illegal aliens, but Newsom and California's Democrat supermajority in the state legislature seem determined to keep it that way. People are fleeing the once-Golden state for greener pastures. The productive are leaving, and the indigent are making their way there. Karen Bass's Los Angeles is in free fall, and San Francisco, once one of the world's greatest cities, is still handing out poop maps. Newsom is defying the federal government in insisting that, in California, boys cosplaying as girls should still be allowed on girls' school sports teams and in their locker rooms.

This is a candidate and a party that are more concerned about pronouns than prosperity.

Of course, November 2028 is still a long way away. Anything can happen, and to quote an old truism in American politics, nobody ever went broke underestimating the American voters. But at this early stage in the game, considering a matchup between Gavin "A Little Dab'll Do Ya" Newsom against, well, anyone on the GOP's huge bench, I know which way I'd bet.

Editor's Note: The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject its globalist agenda.
