Has anyone ever been convinced of the rightness of a cause due to the actions of a mass of shouting, gesturing, sign-waving nincompoops? It's a pretty safe bet the answer is "no," but it was precisely such a mass of shouting, gesturing, sign-waving nincompoops who rushed into the Capitol in Washington on Wednesday to protest the Big, Beautiful Bill - and who were swiftly removed by the Capitol Police.
One of the protestors was wearing a printed t-shirt proclaiming "Books over Billionaires," which is interesting, because there's nothing in the Big, Beautiful Bill that would ban any books. Several other protesters appeared to be wearing similar shirts, which in the end proclaims nothing more than the wearer's ignorance.
As of this writing, the national treasure that is @DataRepublican has started a thread on the protest.
The coordinated outfits and pre-printed signs are nothing new. There is no spontaneity in these protests, and it's more than likely that some, if not all, of the "protestors" were paid to attend.

"Migration-associated federal grants." Think on that for a moment. This would appear to be a group supporting illegal immigration, and the BBB, we note, takes steps to crack down on illegal immigration.

This imbroglio raises a couple of questions.
First, if the J6 protests, which were really no more than hooliganism, were followed up by the capture and imprisonment of quite a few of the protestors, why is that not the case now? These nitwits, we feel certain, will be slapped on the wrist and told to go forth and sin no more - an injunction they will of course ignore. This is, after all, what they do.
Second, in what alternate universe will anyone be persuaded by these overt acts of nitwittery? In what world will someone who hasn't been paying much attention be persuaded by this? How many people will be watching TV in the evening, seeing this, and thinking, "Gosh, these people are really loud and they have colorful signs and t-shirts - they must be right!"
Not even H.G. Wells could come up with a world that bizarre. In the end, to paraphrase a different literary figure, these are "poor players, that struts and frets (their) hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
