NextImg:Wednesday Morning Minute: Running to Keep Up

Wednesday, February 5, 2025

Good morning, and welcome to RedState's "Morning Minute" — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.

Pure Gold: CNN Panel's Reaction to Dems' Wild Treasury Protest Is Hilarious

Politically, they're just digging that hole even deeper as the public will look at them and just see how crazy they are. If they were trying to win ever again, they just keep doing everything they can to lose.

CIA Offering a Buyout for Its Entire Workforce. No, Really.

But it’s keeping conservative journalists crazy busy, too—I can’t sit down for a bite without a new alert with some new stunning, out-of-the-box decision he’s made. I’m sure as heck not complaining, though—it’s a crazy time to be alive, and I’m loving it.

Lawfare Resumes: Judge Blocks Trump's Order Sending Transgender Prisoners to the Correct Prison

Ultimately, I think this decision has more to do with Lambreth's spite over Trump pardoning the people whose lives he tried to ruin.

Swedish School Shooting Should Shatter Gun Control Myths

Based on what gun control advocates claim, though, this shouldn't have happened. This couldn't have happened. Gun control means this can't take place and yet, it did.

Sorry, But Trump Is Wrong on Resettling Palestinians in Jordan and Egypt

I support Israel 100%. I would love to see the Palestinians somewhere else, as far away from Israel and any sane government as possible.

I hear Antarctica is a nice place if you are dressed properly.

Video: Muhammad's 'Evil Genius' Was to Make Islam Tribal

Despite its religious veneer, Islam can easily be defined and understood by one non-religious word: tribalism.

Independent Journalist Highlights Why Dems Are So Quiet About Trump Right Now

All Democrats are now in anti-Trump opposition. There is no plan for taxes, cost of living, inflation, and other issues Joe Biden let atrophy as he napped.

OOPS! Corey DeAngelis and Twitter Laugh at Randi Weingarten (Accidentally) Calling to End the DOE

It's too bad that DOGE can't open the books into everything that Weingarten has done as head of the AFT. Because we all know what an audit there would uncover.

Today on Capitol Hill...

After a productive Tuesday, with the nominations of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (HHS Secretary) and Tulsi Gabbard (DNI) making it out of committee, and Doug Collins (VA Secretary) and Pam Bondi (Attorney General) securing confirmation on the floor, the Senate, on Wednesday, will vote to confirm Scott Turner as HUD Secretary and to break the filibuster on Russ Vought as OMB Director.

Also, the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee will consider the nomination of Howard Lutnick for Commerce Secretary, and the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee will consider the nomination of Kelly Loeffler for SBA Administrator.

In addition, the following hearings/meetings are set:

White House What's Up

After a busy Tuesday meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Donald Trump is set to meet with Texas Governor Greg Abbott Wednesday afternoon, followed by signing the "No Men in Women's Sports" executive order, followed by...a meeting with California Governor Gavin Newsom. (That should be fun!)

Also, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will be holding a press briefing at 1:00 p.m. Eastern.

Full Court Press...

Two men allegedly involved in burglaries at the homes of professional athletes like Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow are due in court in Brooklyn, New York, Wednesday morning.

The lawsuits (and rulings) against the Trump administration continue to roll in.

It appears the committee vote on Kash Patel's nomination for FBI Director will take place on Thursday, as will the vote on Jamieson Greer's nomination for U.S. Trade Representative.

So, my Morning Minute has grown into Morning Minutes as I've adapted and tried to be sure to include the key highlights, but I have an idea for another section I'd like to add..."Keeping Up With the Cabinet." Trump's Cabinet is making a point to be highly visible as those members who've already been confirmed ease (or dive) into their roles. I'm compiling a Twitter — sorry, X — list of the departments and leaders to follow so I can include their doings in our morning overview, too. It's early, but so far, I'm genuinely pleased with the picks and the moves they're making.

Also, shoutout to Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, who seems to be doing a lovely job of keeping things rolling along. This pic, I love:
