Good morning, and welcome to RedState's "Morning Minute" — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.

Vivek Ramaswamy's Devastating Comparison Hits Gavin Newsom Hard: ‘Parallels Are Pretty Striking’

“And Jesse, you can mark my words on this one, Gavin Newsom’s presidential ambitions are gonna end in the same place that George Wallace’s did: in the dustbins of history where it belongs."

Gavin Newsom's Big Address to the Nation Was a Lie-Filled Disaster

Poor guy. Maybe instead of desperately seeking airtime, he should be focusing on helping get things under control in L.A.

Former Capitol Police Chief Wrecks Pelosi for Her Remarks About LA Riots and Jan. 6

So I don't know what Pelosi thought she would achieve with those remarks or whether she was just taken by the "exuberance of the moment," but ultimately they did not go over well for her.

Rare Breed Triggers Report Surging Sales Following Deal With DOJ

I disagree with the term "in common use" applying to what can be banned, but since that's how it works in the courtroom, let's make these in common use so they're never touched again.

If You Don't Have an X Account Then You Can't Know What Is Happening

We have freedom of speech and freedom of the press not because we want to platform bad people or spread misinformation, but because without it we will get nothing BUT lies and misinformation from people who can censor anybody who disagrees with them.

More Riots Break Out in Chicago, Other Cities Across U.S.

Several sources are reporting on X that Chicago police even had to dispatch the bomb squad after someone placed suspicious items in the city's sewer system, though I have not been able to confirm that information myself.

Victor Davis Hanson Might Have Ended Gavin Newsom's Political Career

Hanson torched Newsom, saying that these antics might have ruined his chances of being taken seriously as a national candidate since he cannot grapple with the immigration issue, as no Democrat can right now.

Ex Chief of US Capitol Police Torpedoes Nancy Pelosi's Nat'l Guard Claims About Trump

As usual, when Pelosi's lips are moving that means hearing what she's saying with a healthy dose of skepticism is warranted.

Today on Capitol Hill...

Wednesday is set to be another busy day on Capitol Hill with multiple meetings/hearings set, including:

Wednesday evening is the big Congressional Baseball Game. I know one senator who's looking forward to it:

White House What's Up

It's a busy Wednesday for President Trump, too, as he'll receive his intelligence briefing, followed by lunch with Vice President JD Vance. Later in the afternoon, he'll participate in an Ambassador Credentialing Ceremony in the Oval Office. Then, in the evening, he and First Lady Melania will head to the Kennedy Center for the opening night of Les Misérables.

Full Court Press...

There were several significant court-related developments on Tuesday:

  1. California Governor Gavin Newsom failed in his bid to have a court issue an emergency restraining order against President Trump and SecDef Hegseth — the court hasn't ruled on the motion yet, but the judge did grant Trump/Hegseth's request for time to respond to it and set a hearing regarding it on Thursday.
  2. The Federal Circuit Court of Appeals issued a stay of the Court of International Trade's rulings regarding Trump tariffs pending appeal of that matter — so the tariffs remain in effect until the appeal is resolved. Oral argument is set for July 31, 2025.
  3. The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals issued an administrative stay of Judge Boasberg's June 4 rulings in the J.G.G. v. Trump case (regarding removal of Tren de Aragua members pursuant to the Alien Enemies Act).

As noted above, this evening is the Congressional Baseball Game — my money's on the Republicans bringing home another win.

The Supreme Court is expected to hand down more decisions on Thursday.

And, of course, Saturday is the big birthday celebration for the Army — and the flag, and President Trump. Also known as National Temper Tantrum Day for the Left. Should be interesting...

I never know what's going to inspire my Morning Musing until I start to write it. I was tempted to rip Gavin Newsom some more — he just makes it so easy — but I did a lot of that yesterday already. Instead, I'm going to take this opportunity to give a huge shout-out to our Managing Editor, Jennifer Van Laar, who joined Trace Gallagher on "Fox News at Night" to discuss her recent investigative reporting on who's funding these riots.

Way to go, Jen!
