Police Chief Jim McDonnell was seemingly taken aback when a Los Angeles City Council member asked him if he would commit to notifying city officials about knowledge of upcoming raids so they, in turn, could inform the "immigrant community."
And by "immigrant community," she means the criminal illegal aliens being targeted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The brazen request came from Councilwoman Imelda Padilla (D-LA's 6th District) at a meeting earlier this week to discuss the LAPD's handling of protests against President Trump's immigration enforcement efforts.
"Can we use technology ... to create a situation where your department can identify, 'Hey, there's agents, non-city of LA, in a neighboring town, everyone go on alert,'" she wondered. "In a way where you can support our business community and our immigrant community, to know that it's time."
McDonnell asked Padilla to clarify the request, which didn't get any less shocking the second time around.
"What can your department do to do more to warn us ... that outside of our LA borders ... you can warn us so that we can warn our folks."
McDonnell's reply was a polite way of letting the councilwoman know she was literally asking him to commit a crime.

Padilla suggested that the LAPD's good-faith effort to tip off illegal aliens to pending federal raids would be "in the spirit of your loyalty to the city of Los Angeles."
The police chief gently reminded her why that would be a super-bad idea.
"So, you're asking me to warn you about an enforcement action being taken by another agency before it happens?" he asked.
"Yeah, we can't do that. That would be obstruction of justice. You may want to talk to the City Attorney about that," McDonnell added. "That would be completely inappropriate and illegal."
Something being inappropriate and illegal isn't exactly a deterrent for members of a party that vehemently defend and protect criminal illegal aliens in the first place.
You might be stunned to learn that Padilla's background in "community organizing" and the fact that she's Latina led Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to appoint her to the Metro Board of Directors. She was also endorsed in her losing bid for the Los Angeles Unified School District's Board of Education in 2017 by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
She's got the backing of some pretty extreme players.
Also at the meeting, City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson (D) blasted McDonnell for daring to work with federal authorities to enforce the law.
"If we know somebody is coming here to do warrant-less abductions of the residents of this city, those are not our partners," Harris-Dawson said. "I don't care what badge they have on or whose orders they're under. They're not our partners."
McDonnell also had to politely educate him as well, noting that the ability for the city to host major events such as the World Cup and the 2028 Olympics "requires that we work with federal, state, and local partners."
Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
